Here’s a fun exercise this time of year.
Think back to a decision you made — or didn’t make — last year.
How’d it work out for you?
Are you any further ahead than you were a year ago?
Or are you still stuck exactly where you were back then?
Did you follow someone’s advice?
Perhaps from one of those theoretically trustworthy types of people?
Like a “financial advisor”, a broker, an accountant, or an attorney?
Did it work out?
Or was it just bum advice.
Perhaps an attorney led you astray?
Their advice sounded reasonable at the time.
After all, they are an attorney.
But perhaps they were just speaking out of their own personal fears and prejudices.
Something to consider.
It didn’t seem that way at the time, but 1 year later you now actually have some perspective to properly evaluate the advice they gave you…
And if it has had — or hasn’t had — the right results.
Many times we get led astray by bad advice.
And quite often that advice is given by people we think are credible.
People we think we should trust.
Or whom we assume have our best interests at heart.
But that isn’t always the case.
So take a long hard look at the results of your actions, especially those based on “advice”, no matter how trustworthy you think the advice-giver is.
The proof is always in the pudding.
So if it doesn’t taste right, or if you don’t even have any pudding to taste, then it’s time to move on, rethink where you’re at and what you’re doing, and take alternate action.
Then it will actually happen for you this year.
