I saw it a lot on my coast-to-coast road trip.
Used car salesman commercials on TV with larger-than-life practically caricatures of themselves trying to push the latest sale.
I thought it’s almost old school these days, but seems to being kept alive by a special few.
And it has kept many people with a hatred of sales, selling, and being sold to.
All of which has kept people from becoming great negotiators, because they conflate the two things (selling & negotiation) even though they are very different.
Arguably they are overlapping circles, but actually very distinct if done right.
And that distinction needs to be made, otherwise the great benefits of being a solid negotiator get lost in the disdain for slick sales techniques.
So ignore the used car salesman in a crazy suit yelling through a megaphone in a cheaply produced local commercial, and learn to negotiate the right way.
* In your style.
* In your voice.
* In your personality.
Not in some silly salesman’s.
And I’d argue that that means having a solid framework so that you can do it modularly.
Yes, in modules.
Useable pieces that you can stack into any order you need to deal with any situation.
That’s why I call it: Modular NegotiationTM
And I’m going to teach my style of negotiation: Modular NegotiationTM, this month at Traction REIA and at my TOTAL TRACTION Implementation Bootcamp.
