(Re)defining Retirement

JAKE:
Tom, you talk a lot about retirement and “retiring early”. It doesn’t seem realistic that I’d get the gold watch in only a few years. Sounds like hype to me. Explain.

TOM:

You are hardly going after the “gold watch”.

Times have changed, my friend.

Massively.

Retirement is indeed rapidly achievable these days. It doesn’t take 50 years anymore.

*IF* you play your cards right and *IF* you make the right moves.

What’s my definition of retirement?

Two-fold:

1. The ability to not have to work a conventional job of any kind;

2. To be able to live off of your investments and maintain the lifestyle that you are accustomed to and comfortable with, without feeling that you’ll never have what you need, want, and desire.

Will this happen overnight?

Nope.

Will this happen without having to apply yourself and put some effort in?

Negative.

But if you choose the right strategy — and then focus on it like a laser — there’s no reason why it can’t happen in just a few years.

I’ve done it.

And so has Anthony Chara.

Is it truly doable?

Yes.
