Screaming “yes” really means “no”

Learn to just say “no”.

It’s only 2 letters and easy to pronounce.

And learning to say it more often will simplify your life.

Trust me on this one.

(And then try it for yourself.)

It’s liberating.

Yet a lot of people have a hard time saying no.

They just can’t seem to bear the thought of turning anyone down.

This stems from their own insecurity, as they’re afraid to miss an “opportunity”.

But not everything that comes your way is an actual opportunity.

You need to learn how to be discerning.

How to sort, sift, and separate everything that is presented to you.

Otherwise you’ll spread yourself too thin across things that would never amount to anything profitable or valuable anyway.

“Do you want to see that movie that no one’s raving about?”

No.

“Do you want to go to the basket weaving class with me?”

No.

“Do you want to sit on the group’s steering committee?”

No.

“No” is powerful and would let everyone know the score immediately and then quickly move on.

But instead, most people use delaying tactics, or just lie and say “yes” rather than just coming out and saying no.

They think they are being more polite.

But are they really?

Is it really polite to lead someone to believe you said yes, but then never come through in the end?

Not in my book.

You just look flaky.

Or worse, INSINCERE.

So just say “no” upfront.

It isn’t mean.

It’s actually much more respectable.

And not just in your personal life, in your business life too.

Wouldn’t you rather be known as the person for whom “no” means “no” and “yes” means “yes”?

A straight-shooter rather than a squirmy worm?

(You should say “yes” to that one.)

Learning how to quickly identify the opportunities and dismiss the nonsense is a key business and life skill.

It’s one of the many things I teach the students in my real estate mentoring program.

Think you would benefit from a Strategy Session with me?

Think you might qualify?

Then fill out this application.

But be aware that I might say “no”.

Don’t take it personally, it just means that we aren’t a match at this time.

And I need to preserve and protect my time a lot these days, as it’s at a premium and I reserve it for my family, friends, and paying clients first.

That’s why these Strategy Sessions are a valuable gift and why I limit it to 5 per month.
