Paying by the pound

An old friend of mine at lunch the other day told me that he always admired my willingness to spend money on getting trained in what I wanted to do. To spend on investing in myself and my skill set.

Particularly as he’s seen the results in me.

He said he finally got out there and is now doing the same for himself.

But he was shocked at how much it works out to per hour, as the coach for his type of business doesn’t provide very much 1-on-1 time.

In fact, it was almost non-existent.

So I gave him yet another lesson:
You aren’t paying for their time, you’re paying to get the result you want.

Paying by the hour is an employee mentality.

And won’t get you very far in business.

You need to focus on one thing, and one thing only…

The result you want to get.

That’s what you’re paying for.

NOT how long they spend on the phone with you, or how often you meet, or how many pages are in their manual, or how many forms are in their system, or whatever other pointless metric you want to judge by.

Do you want the result they offer?

Do you think they can get you there?

That’s all.
