Q&A: Part of making 2015 great means you have to do something

Fielding lots of questions today in advance of this weekend’s bootcamp. (People always seem to wait until the very last minute — that’s not the way of a truly successful person…)

I’ll answer them here as I’m sure others are thinking about the same things.

QUESTION #1 —
“The timing isn’t right yet. I’m going to wait until the next time you do it.”

TOM:
Last time I looked on the calendar it didn’t say it was the right time.

In fact it never says it’s right.

I’ve realized that the right time is always when the opportunity is right in front of you. Windows of opportunity don’t always open again. When they are missed, time just passes by, nothings changes, and the opportunity is then gone.

Why is it really not the right time for you?

QUESTION #2: —
“I want to go, but my husband won’t let me.”

TOM:
Usually I hear this from the guys!

How does it feel to let someone else totally control you?

When you got married did you intentionally give up your ability to choose for yourself?

Carolina (my wife) and I have an agreement: if something is good for either of us or good for business and doesn’t damage our relationship, then we don’t need to seek the other’s approval.

QUESTION #3:
“Can I go for free? I just don’t have the money.”

TOM:
Is it that you don’t have any money, or just don’t want to have the money for this?

People waste money every day on frivolous things. This is an investment in yourself, not an expense. If you needed ransom money to save your child, I’m sure you’d find it. Treat rescuing yourself and your business development the same way.

An extreme example?

Yes.

But that’s how I viewed it when I got started and it pushed me to expand my training to finally get the result I wanted.

QUESTION #4 —
“I’m considering, but I’ve been burned by other (more expensive) programs that haven’t worked.”

TOM:
Let’s be honest: programs don’t work. People do.

How much of a commitment have you made in the past to these other programs?

If you were 100% committed you would have received what you needed.

I’ll give you what you need and push you, but you do actually need to apply yourself and implement what I teach you.

QUESTION #5 —
“I can’t get the time off of work.”

TOM:
What’s more important to you? One more day at work, or the ability to not have to answer to a boss ever again?

You might take a small hit on the lost pay now, but that’s worth it if you are committed to what you really want in the future.

When I was starting out I used to take days off of my temp job. Since I wasn’t salaried I lost that day’s pay, but that short-term loss was well worth the long-term gain I still enjoy to this day.

Make the choice to finally get to where you want to be.
