More audacious hype

Time to ruffle some more feathers.

(It is fun after all…)

I previously called out many of the marketing tricks used on you that aren’t always trustworthy but are very popular amongst the so-called gurus.

Now, for everyone’s protection, it is time to expose some more…

1.  Fake outs saying you lost a password or your account is now inactive.

This one is just a pure spam technique, yet it gets used frequently.

If you don’t remember having an account with someone, beware.

They get you confused and thinking that perhaps you did. Then just try to get you to sign up for their product or service.

If it was really that good, you wouldn’t have to be lied to in order to invest in it.

2. Referring to people as “my friend”.

Perennially popular.

Especially during launches.

Because the marketer thinks that you’ll trust the 3rd party more since they are friends with the person they are promoting.

(And they assume you trust them already because you are on their list).

Most of the time they aren’t actually friends. So don’t fall for it.

Sure, sometimes they may actually know each other. But often it just means they met at a guru networking event or launch party.

These events are like marketing needle exchanges. Everyone is swapping offers to their various lists.

So it’s hardly a close friendship.

Don’t use it as the basis for your decision.

3. Claiming to be voted #1

But by who?

Or claiming to be top in an industry.

But says who?

You can’t be self-proclaimed #1.

That just doesn’t have any validity. We all like ourselves, but don’t break an arm patting yourself on the back.

Mommy will always say you’re #1.

But for it to really carry any weight it should be from a neutral 3rd party (like a trade group, etc.)

So be suspicious of any “We’re #1” claims that don’t have a valid source.

4. Customized special web links containing your name.

It’s a customization trick.

People respond better when they see their own name.

So they send a web link that has your name in it.

All it does really is track the fact that you clicked and then they can customize the sales letter you get directed to as well.

Don’t fall for it.

And the list of marketing chicanery goes on…

Remember, their untrustworthiness shows in their over-hype of everything (not to mention their outright lies). Especially if they are promoting their product as the be-all-end-all solution to all your problems.

Why can’t people just be honest and make a solid offer that you are actually interested in?

(That’s a rhetorical question. Just think about it for a minute.)

All these ninja tactics just aren’t needed for an honest business.

For me, I’d rather just show you — and provide you with — awesome value to entice you to become a client of mine, rather than try and trick you.

It is much better for the relationship in the long-term (and in the short-term too for that matter).

Do I lose some people from this approach?

Yes, I probably do.

But what I don’t lose is sleep.

And that’s important to me.

Want some serious value?

Apply for a Strategy Session with me. We’ll talk about you, your goals, and how to achieve them.

We’ll talk about getting Traction in your business and in your life.

Is this just an empty marketing ploy to get you into one of my mentoring programs?

No, because you’ll get serious value from the call even if we never speak to each other again.

I do use these calls to meet great people who are a good match for finding success in my programs, but I provide you with great value through the process, not just empty marketing hype. That’s the difference.
