Is this the type of ad you’d answer?
(Sounds like the beginning phases of building a business alone.)
Who was Ernest Shackleton anyway?
He was an Antarctic explorer who… Failed!
He failed at everything he tried to do.
His main goal was to be the first man to get to the South Pole and back.
But he never made it.
Instead his ship got stuck in the pack ice and was eventually crushed.
He took the lifeboats, built them up and enhanced them from scraps from the main vessel, and, leaving his men on the pack ice, set off with a small team to try and get to civilization.
By “civilization” he meant a small whaling station on an absurdly remote island.
He actually did get there. But…
He landed on the wrong side of the island!
So he had to hike over to the other side.
Except that this island was basically just a snowy mountaintop sticking out of the ocean. And crossing it is something modern climbers with modern gear and equipment have struggled with.
But he made it. And then he got back to mainland South America, and eventually went back to the pack ice and rescued every single one of his crew members!
Incredible!
And certainly against all odds.
Perhaps that’s why I’ve always loved his story so much and have found it motivational when building up my business. (I even named my first company “Prospice” after a favorite poem of his — “Look to the future”.)
Because there are some days nothing — absolutely NOTHING — seems to go your way.
And what do you do then?
Quit?
Cry?
Roll-over and die?
Or figure out a way to rise above it all and fight until you achieve survival — and success!
The choice is yours, fearless adventurer.
Have no doubt about that.
So what are you going to do?
