“Tom, so many people come to me and ask me to train them for free. I tell them why would I do that. I paid Tom and you should pay Tom too. What I paid is tiny compared to what I made from it. I’m not the coach, Tom is. Teaching people is a lot of work.”

TOM:

If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a thousand times.

Or this version:
“I need help to do deals. I’ll pay out of my future success. After all, you can afford to coach me for free.”

Nope.

Sorry Charlie, it doesn’t work that way.

Here’s why:

Treating you like a charity case won’t actually do you any good.

Because if you don’t invest in it, you won’t stick to it.

(Everyone thinks they actually will, but they never do.)

Yes, I’ve foolishly tried this before and all that happens is that I waste MY time.

And my time is valuable.

Very valuable these days.

So now I understand that I can’t just give my training and systems away.

And if you understood that, and stopped giving your time away, you’d be in a much better place too.

You’d finally value your own time properly, and you’d know what other people and systems are truly worth.

Think about it:
Why would I want to work with someone who is asking the world of me without having myself receive anything in return?

Would you like to eat at restaurants for free too?

Or move into my basement and live for free?

(Yes, it is the same.)

Because information, systems, and custom-tailored guidance is valuable.

So pay for it.

Someone to push you to actually IMPLEMENT is valuable.

So pay for it.

Yes, you say you’ll pay me out of future profits, but what happens if I spend my time with you, give you my legal contracts, my marketing templates. my systems, and my frameworks and then you flake out, or move on, and disappear?

With no skin in the game, what motivation do you have to stick around when the going gets tough?

(And it will get tough. It always does.)

“But I’ll be your #1 testimonial and sing your praises.”

You should do the same.
