The best way of dealing with lawyers?
Avoid them!
(Seriously. This is not a lawyer joke.)
Easier said than done oftentimes in business.
Still…
We need to coat ourselves with “Lawyer Repellent” to ward them off.
(maybe garlic works…)
Otherwise, the only ones who walk away the winner are the lawyers, because win or lose, they still get paid.
Therefore, how to best protect yourself?
It seems contradictory, but:
Ask a lawyer.
They know best.
(After all, you wouldn’t ask a deer how it wants to be hunted; you’d ask a hunter how to do it best.)
I don’t ask other real estate investors how to avoid lawyers, I ask my lawyer how to do it best.
My lawyer:
1. Checks what I do to avoid liability.
2. Makes sure I’m compliant with all the ins-and-outs of our very complicated tax code.
3. Makes sure I don’t get hurt by an audit.
4. Advises me which corporate entity to use (and WHY to use each specific one for each specific case)
