I was strolling around Mount Vernon last week and was told this quote from none other than George Washington.
“A pack of jackasses led by a lion is superior to a pack of lions led by a jackass”
I can’t argue with that.
Everywhere I look I see it playing out to be true.
Being led is important.
* Follow the wrong leader, and you can be on a one-way road to you-know-where.
* Follow the right leader, and great things open up to you.
Yes, leadership is an interesting conundrum sometimes.
Same is true in business.
Who you choose to follow can make all the difference in the world.
There are an absurd amount of coaches, trainers and programs out there these days for every industry.
And the internet is bloated with uncontrollable amounts of “free” info. Most of it is worth the price you are paying for it.
Which to follow?
That takes some discernment.
Even if you aren’t the leader, you’re still the leader of yourself.
So are you going to follow a jackass, or a lion?
(Can you even tell the difference?)
Here’s a tip:
Take a look at what the person does, the results they get, and if they are actually someone with a lifestyle you want to emulate.
If so, take a closer look.
If not, turn and walk away.
How?
Start by reading some of their thoughts and watching some of their videos.
— If you relate and understand what they are saying, they may be right for you.
— If not, they’re probably not right for you.
Personally, I prefer to determine their fitness more by what they’ve written, as the written word is at a higher level than just talking to a camera. (Yes, I’m biased, as I write books and near-daily emails, but it’s still the way I discern intelligence and quality in others.)
Does that make me the right leader and mentor for you?
No.
Not necessarily.
Only you can determine that.
